The brief:

After taking a good look around our website our clients for this Warwickshire Kitchen design got in touch to discuss their requirements.

Sarah and Neil had not long purchased College Farm when we spoke about replacing their kitchen and utility. The rooms were full of charm, with a fireplace, stone mullion windows, bread oven and characterful wooden beams throughout, however the existing configuration, which included lots of wall units, left the spaces feeling very small.

The brief we arrived at together was to create an entirely new and bespoke kitchen design and utility room that created the feeling of space, whilst also providing a visual appeal that fitted with the character of the home and was highly practical to use. Sarah and Neil wanted to fit the kitchen design around their existing Aga as well as adding a separate electric oven for the summer months where the Aga is turned off, and although the space was too small for an island they wanted to include a seating area.

The Vision

To suit the feel of this characterful home we opted for a classic Shaker design with a cock bead moulding on the framework to add some detail. We kept the colour scheme light and neutral using Little Greene – Rolling Fog no.143 for the cabinetry.

Because the existing Aga was set back in the old kitchen fireplace, we had to make the cabinets either side shallower in order for the cabinet fronts to run in line with the front of the Aga. This created a few break fronted cabinets which added to the charm of the room. We also added a worktop larder for accessibility to all of Sarah and Neil’s kitchen essentials. And finally to ensure they had a seating area we designed and built a bespoke kitchen table to sit centrally in the kitchen, which was sized to still allow free flowing movement throughout.

We moved the boiler in the utility room to stand in line with the new base cabinets and included an extra-large Belfast sink along for ultimate practicality.
