Bracknell, Berkshire

The Brief

Fiona and Richard have lived in their beautiful and homely five-bedroom family home, in Berkshire for 25 years .  Tucked down a winding rural road, their home has always been full of life, raising their children here and now spending memorable hours with grandchildren.   The kitchen was absolutely full of character but for Fiona this felt like the perfect time to renew their space.

The space is a wider galley-style design, with a kitchen table and benches at one end that absorbed quite a lot of available floor area.  Part of the design discussion revolved around incorporating this space within usable kitchen area and reducing seating – the dining room was just next door and for meal times it tended to be just the two of them.

A large back kitchen, just a few footsteps away, had housed Fiona’s extensive culinary collection of larger pots, pans and serving dishes.  It was clear that we needed to increase storage, improve the flow within the main kitchen with more dedicated prepping and baking areas.  Fiona also really wanted  more than one oven, so that the kitchen could fully support her love of cooking and baking.

The Vision

After visiting one of her friend’s kitchens that we had recently completed in London,  Fiona had her heart set on our Heritage Shaker Kitchen design, which features our quarter-round doors with our cock-beaded frames.

We particularly adore the large and handsome run of floor-to-ceiling cabinets on the right side of the kitchen that we designed in.  They are eternally practical and create an impressive statement.  Within which we included, an integrated Fisher Paykel Fridge Freezer and one of our signature cabinetry pieces: a wide pantry cupboard with pull out shelving and spice racks integrated into the doors, complete with brass rails.  On the opposite wall you will find another stand out feature within this Shaker kitchen, a handmade tapered extractor hood with a built-in canopy extractor, painted the same as the surrounding wall colour, its striking yet understated.

After thoughtful discussions, at the top of the kitchen, we replaced the kitchen table and benches with a practical peninsular island.  Fiona has appreciated this area for kneading dough and developing her patisserie skills and eating with her husband.
