Great Bourton, Oxfordshire Kitchen Project

The Brief

Jan and Mark were recommended to us through a mutual contact, they got in touch in March 2022 to discuss their project.

Their Oxfordshire countryside home is a characterful barn conversion with curves on both sides of the building. The existing kitchen and hallway were divided by a wall to create a walkthrough, which made both spaces seem small and dark. Jan and Mark discussed the idea of removing the dividing wall to open the space up, which we were hugely in favour of as it would allow us a much more spacious room to design in.

With the new space created we were able to work to their brief of creating a classic and timeless shaker style kitchen. Given the curved nature of the room we presented ideas that used both curved and standard cabinetry. The island was a key requirement for Jan and Mark, the space before hadn’t allowed for one so they were keen to incorporate this into their new bespoke kitchen. We discussed the size of the island a number of times to ensure it worked functionally and allowed plenty of space for free movement around the room.

The Vision

Working closely with Jan & Mark we created a Shaker Kitchen, they opted for standard cabinetry rather than curved and we decided upon cock beaded frames and our quarter round door moulding. For the island they chose our beaded panelling.

We incorporated a false mantle within the design to create a focal point for the oven space and added shelving to provide extra display storage.

The colour scheme was Chambers Gate for the main cabinets and Oratory for the Island, the combination works beautifully and we’re delighted with the final finish of this project.
