Hook Norton, Oxfordshire

The Brief
Vivienne and Will fell in love with a Grade II listed property in need of complete renovation—and in parts, rebuilding. It was a huge undertaking, and we feel incredibly lucky to have been part of it, watching a stunning family home take shape over the course of a long and loving restoration.
Vivienne reached out to us partway through their renovation journey, hoping to create a bespoke, handmade kitchen that would feel right at home in the beautiful new space. Part of the benefit of opting for a bespoke kitchen is the flexibility and experience we can offer, working alongside builders and architects – our process takes this into account making for an enjoyable experience for all involved.
The kitchen space now opens into a light-filled orangery – a new and much loved addition that Vivienne and Will designed in, and we must say it blends seamlessly with the character of their period home.
With young children and dogs, Vivienne and Will needed a kitchen that would support their busy, fun packed family life. They were especially keen to include a large central island, to complement their refectory-style table in the orangery, and to create a space that was both practical and welcoming. Truly the heart of their home.
The Vision
The island we designed stretches nearly three metres, with bar stools tucked neatly beneath the worktop. It offers generous storage—cupboards on one side and a bookshelf on the other, perfect for the family’s much-loved cookbooks. We ensured there was plenty of space around the island and the two runs of worktops, allowing children and dogs to move freely through the room.
A range oven felt like the right fit for this kitchen, and Vivienne sourced a beautifully reconditioned Everhot—one of our favourite brands, and a firm feature in our own showroom. We designed a generous mantle to frame it and give it pride of place.
The space was large enough to include a dedicated back kitchen with oak pantry shelves. Vivienne has since told us how invaluable this area has become. A brilliant place for storing dried goods and keeping kitchen gadgets neatly tucked away.
We also created a third space: a combined laundry and utility room, complete with its own sink and a cosy corner for the dogs. We suggested full-height cabinetry and raised appliances to make washing at the perfect working height. There’s even a ceiling-mounted drying rail, making this a truly hard-working space.
Vivienne and Will wanted something neutral for their cabinetry, but with a little personality too. Together, we chose a soft pink called Bloomsbury by Mylands and paired it with a calming Hoxton Grey. A combination that feels both gentle and fun loving as well.
