Shaker cabinetry originates from the Shaker movement, in the late 18th to early 20th century. It’s the most popular kitchen design on the market still today. The Shakers believed in hand making all their furniture purposefully and skillfully. The honest by hand approach meant that it was quite a utilitarian process - only useful things were made, because hand making items is time consuming. But the items were solid, timeless and cherished. It gave rise to integrity in craftsmanship and carved handmade items were deemed as beautiful. It's a long way from manufactured items that we see in homes today.
In a Shaker kitchen, the cabinet doors are defined by a flat panel and simple square frame, with minimal fuss and purposeful durability. At Cherrywood Bespoke we tailor frame widths and subtle details, like beads, to allow the style to suit everything from contemporary to classic, to farmhouse-inspired kitchens. Using the Shaker design as a foundation we can mix freestanding pieces with fitted cabinetry, choose classic or contemporary Shaker, or combination of both.

We started this discussion with an understanding of how the space around us affects our mood and our decisions, within the Interior Design industry this is known as the psychology of space. At Cherrywood Bespoke, near Helmdon we do take this very seriously and that knowledge is designed into every handmade kitchen we create.
We work with a very experienced Interior Designer and as part of your journey you will have detailed meetings with Stephanie to refine your design to create the best possible outcome for your home. Stephanie will guide your bespoke kitchen design and also help you settle on the important elements of the design that can influence your space like the colour palette, cabinet styles, type and shade of worktops and cabinetry hardware. During this process she will also share ideas for your wall colours and floor covering if these are decisions you need to make as part of your project.

We only use the finest materials and make sure that everything we bring into our workshop and showroom is produced by artisans and specialists. These are British made products and from UK based companies. We work alongside the following brands for low VOC paint, stunning taps, british sinks, and hand finished cabinetry hardware and you can see samples of their products within our Showroom in Cropredy:

Luke's methodology to success is to work hard at what you love, be true to yourself, your craft and your customers, and have the grit to stay the distance. It takes a certain mindset to continually improve and grow a business - and Luke is a ‘details’ man through and through!
Luke is a cabinet maker by trade with 20 years of experience- he often ‘works on the tools’ himself when we need more hands in our workshop. He is not one to compromise on many things - especially standards and integrity - he has always wanted to make a difference to everyday living with simple, beautiful and timeless solutions that are meaningful to his customers.
